One screen, multiple fabrics - multiple uses.
One of the most versatile pieces in your photographer’s tool kit, the Scrim Jim is an essential light modifier for visual creators. It’s super easy-to-use and can modify, block, bounce, or diffuse virtually any light source. This portable system breaks down easily, proving to be ideal for photographers and filmmakers who travel often. With a range of uses on-location, or on-set, we take you through why you need a Scrim Jim, and tips on how you might use it.

1. Bounce Light

With a selection of stands and grips, use a reversible silver/white bounce fabric insert for the 6x6 and bounce light onto your subject by directing your light source toward the reflective white fabric side, to in turn, bounce a softer output onto the subject. The silver side illuminates and produces cool, bright highlights with an unmatched quality, where the white side offers natural colour rendition with bright, clean highlights. Introduce the California Sunbounce to reflect light for fill, depending on the light styling of the shot.

2. Diffuse Light

This application allows you to soften ambient and artificial light sources, by controlling the level of diffusion with ¼, ⅔ and 1 stop silks to modify the light as you need. Whether you need to just take the edge off, or are looking for a much softer and more rounded light, there is a silk that works for your style. Constructed from nylon and silk fabrics, this diffusion does not affect the colour temperature of light sources and helps to maintain natural-looking skin tones. It is ideal for overhead use, to soften harsh sunlight, or to place in front of a main light source for broad diffusion.

3. Block Light

Block, shape, shadow, flag, or detract light. The black fabric is a versatile addition when shooting near large light sources, like windows or big artificial lights, as it is often necessary to precisely control where that light falls. The opaque, nearly reflection-free black surface can be used to block ambient light in order to create shadows.
